Does Amina Exist?

It has been three days since Amina was abducted. She rose to prominence through her blog, Gay Girl in Damascus, where she wrote not only of her sexual orientation, but also of the atrocities in Syria as an activist against the regime. new of her abduction had spreed like a wild fire in the last two days only to recently discover that the photos that the media have been using of her where not of her but of some other lady who lives in the UK and has no connection to Syria in the remotest way. obviously someone, mucked this up pretty badly, probably some news reporter somewhere someplace. So naturally, now that there is no news from our heroin or any of her relatives, doubtful minds have taken over to challenge even her existence..

So what is the truth? Does Amina exist or does she not? No one but a handful really know the truth at this point but does it matter?  I think most of us are missing the point of all this debacle.

I have enjoyed reading Amina's blog.  There was a lot of passion and truth in what she blogged about. weather it was about her sexuality or about the atrocities perpetrated by the Syrian regime against the Syrian people. Her accounts are too real to discount. even if she is nothing more than an impressively brilliant and imaginative writer residing far away from Syria.... her words still hold a lot of truth about what is going on in Syria.  Her detailed expressiveness is too real... to close to the heart... to concise to dismiss as pure fiction.

You see, even though she may not be real and that her abduction could be fabricated (which i don't believe to be the case) the fact remains that there are many who have actually been abducted and are currently being tortured by the brutal thugs of the butcher of Syria.  Even if Amina's blog is bogus, she has contributed tremendously towards the highlighting of the real issue at hand:  the plight of the Syrian people at the hands of the regime.

Fictitious or not. This girl has managed to  shed light, eloquently, on the atrocities of the Syrian regime. if anything, she has contributed towards the cause of the Syrian protesters by capturing the reality of the situation very accurately.

Weather Amina exists or not, whether her blog is totally fabricated or not, she has given us reason to believe in the Syrian uprising and to feel with the down trodden Syrian people.

Personally I do hope that this is all fabricated as i would not wish for anyone, especially a female, to be locked up in any one of the Syrian tyrants prisons where many people have been tortured and killed.

But the fact is that i do belive in Amina, both the idea and the person herself, and i do belive in the authenticty of both idea and person aswell. and i do belive the tragedy of the Syrian people and that many are being abducted, imprisoned, turtured, killed and vanished. that last part atleast can not be denyed if anything.

Free Amina. Free all the innocent Syrians protesters...
